Real story of what England did to India.

This is an eyeopener and tells the real story of what England did to India.

LORD MACAULAY'S ADDRESS TO THE BRITISH PARLIAMENT, 2 FEBRUARY, 1835

I have travelled across the length and breadth of India and I have not seen one person who is a beggar, who is a thief. Such wealth I have seen in this country, such high moral values, people of such calibre, that I do not think we would ever conquer this country, unless we break the very backbone of this nation, which is her spiritual and cultural heritage, and, therefore, I propose that we replace her old and ancient education system, her culture, for if the Indians think that all that is foreign and English is good and greater than their own, they will lose their self-esteem, their native culture and they will become what we want them, a truly dominated nation.

Engineers Day 2010

For those of you who do not know by now, every day is a celebration in India. This September 15th being no exception, today is officially Engineer's Day 2010 across the sub-continent. In honor of India's most famous engineer, Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvarayya, people of India celebrate his contribution to economic planning for their country and the world.

Mokshagundam Visvesvarayya's contribution to the legacy of Indian engineering, especially those contributions of his which led to the country's infrastructure and civic advances (dam projects etc.), are cause for national pride. Imagine India before the vast waterway projects this engineering genius helped develop.

Irrigation projects helped millions fend of the crippling hunger Indian's suffered for centuries. Hydroelectric projects later shed light on homes and businesses which earlier had been cast into darkness. This engineer's accomplishments, especially for the time, were almost inconceivable – especially for an Indian in that time. Sir M. V.'s KRS dam across the Cauvery River was once the largest in all Asia.

These and other contributions led to Visvesvarayya receiving India's highest honor, the Bharat Ratna, back in 1955, as well as Knight Commander of the Indian Empire as far back as 1915. His public works efforts for the people of India are quite legendary now.

Just the number of Indian engineering establishments named for Visvesvarayya shows the reverence he is held in even today. In honor of India's first, and most preeminent engineer, the people of India celebrate September 15th each year – Happy Engineer's Day!
